Study 1 - Managing a changing environment
Making sure your premises are used to meet the changing needs of your staff is a full time job – but often one that many companies do not have the time or expertise to do cost effectively. One of our clients, a leading European reprographics company, already had an in-house facilities management team, but decided that they wanted to outsource these services in the future.
Building Trust
We worked closely with the existing facilities management team to develop a proposal for managing 5,574 m2 (60,000 sq ft) of office space. Through a potentially sensitive process of consultation with the head of facilities and director of human resources, we developed a facilities management plan based on a detailed picture of the needs of employees. We also quickly built a good working relationship with the existing team, and as we gained confidence in each other, we started to manage an increasingly wide range of services within the building.
Building a team
Our plan also included recommending an appropriate permanent facilities management team. We were able to build a solid team of experts from within the existing facilities management department complimented by the right people from FMS, to ensure the smooth, day-to-day operation of the premises.
From the post room to the kitchen
Today our client has almost completely outsourced the management of their premises to the expanding FMS team. We look after everything from cleaning & maintenance to security and postal services. We have also refurbished and continue to manage the kitchen and catering facilities. As the working environment changes, we have also incorporated new ways of using office space, such as desk sharing. We also manage sublet sites around the UK on behalf of our client.
